Abstract

Plantas herbáceas o leñosas con crecimiento secundario en espesor; raíz primaria persistente; haces vasculares abiertos, dispuestos en un anillo (eustela), plastidios de los tubos cribosos sin inclusiones proteínicas cuneiformes. Hojas con lámina claramente diferenciada del pecíolo (a veces sésiles), en general sin base envainadora; pinnati o palmatinervias. Flores con piezas florales en verticilos 4-meros o 5-meros (a veces en número indefinido), granos de polen triaperturados (1-aperturados sólo en las familias primitivas); embrión con 2 cotiledones. Las Dicotyledoneae corresponden a la Clase Magnoliopsida del Sistema de Cronquist. Comprenden 6 subclases, 63 órdenes, 318 familias y cerca de 170.00 especies.
