Abstract

Las zonas costeras, emplazadas entre el mar yel continente, albergan actualmente el 40% dela población urbana mundial, mayormente engrandes urbes. A su vez, según un informe delas Naciones Unidas de 2018, casi el 70% delas megaciudades aquellas con más de 10 millones de habitantes están localizadas en áreas costeras. Se deduce fácilmente, en consecuencia, que las urbanizaciones costeras constituyen lugares fundamentales tanto en materia social y económica como ambiental, pues conforman una gran concentración demográfica y económica en una reducida porción de la superficie terrestre. La Argentina, por el peso del área metropolitana de Buenos Aires, ocupa el décimo lugar en la lista de países ordenados por el número de sus habitantes costeros, y, con unos 6800km de desarrollo costero continental, es considerada una de las veinticinco naciones con mayor longitud de línea de costa. Sin embargo, por las dificultades técnicas de la medición, los datos sobre longitud de costas varían entre las diversas fuentes que los estiman.
