Abstract

Objective: To assess the levels of physical workload among workers in an Ophthalmology Department. To analyze differences in relation to sex, age, and work seniority. Additionally, to analyze environment conditions in the consult area. In case intolerable values are detected, preventive and intervention measures will be proposed. Material and Methods: The Workload Scale (ESCAM) will be utilized on a sample of doctors to evaluate the environmental conditions of the work setting and the various dimensions that constitute mental workload. Results: The ESCAM scale is an easy-to-use tool to assess levels of subjective mental workload. The worst rated environmental conditions at work were noise and temperature. Significant differences were found between the subjective mental workload values of men and women. No statistically significant differences were found between the subjective mental workload values of workers under and over 40 years of age. No statistically significant differences were found between the subjective mental workload values of workers with less than and more than 6 years of work experience. According to the results of this study, preventive measures to reduce noise and regulate temperature in ophthalmology outpatient clinics were proposed. Conclusions: The Workload Scale (ESCAM) is an easy-to-use tool that allows for the analysis and identification of intolerable situations. Furthermore, it facilitates the proposal of preventive and intervention measures.
