Abstract

Il Critical Thinking è una disciplina che fornisce i mezzi per distinguere i buoni dai cattivi argomenti. Nel farlo, si avvale del contributo di altre discipline come la logica, la psicologia, la teoria dell’argomentazione, la teoria della probabilità. Sfruttando e sviluppando la nostra capacità di ragionare, ci fa comprendere perché certi schemi di ragionamento sono corretti e altri no. Questo libro è un’introduzione al Critical Thinking, al ruolo che ha il ragionamento nei contesti concreti e alle forme che questo assume in ambiti diversi. La prima parte del libro spiega che cos’è un argomento e quali tipi di argomento esistono; la seconda tratta gli argomenti deduttivi, con particolare attenzione ai condizionali e ai controfattuali; la terza prende in considerazione alcuni argomenti non deduttivi, come il ragionamento statistico, il ragionamento con le probabilità, il ragionamento con ipotesi esplicative, l’inferenza alla miglior spiegazione e il ragionamento per analogia. Il volume chiarisce inoltre perché sia importante ragionare bene. Riconoscere e fornire buoni argomenti ci aiuta ad avere una comprensione migliore delle tesi che siamo chiamati a considerare quando compiamo scelte e interagiamo con gli altri.
