Abstract

This paper analyses a corpus of Costa Rica Science fiction short stories. The selection includes texts written by Carmen Naranjo, Mariana Castillo, Linda Berrón, and Anacristina Rossi. We are interested in how these dystopic and posapocalyptic spaces are conformed, how the characters in them behave and interact, and what are the social issues addressed in them. To answer these questions, we use a methodology that articulates and nurtures from structuralism, semiotic, ecocriticism and ecofeminism theories. It concludes, on one side, that the dystopic texts show an anthropocentric vision about the environment, at the same time they address a concern about social inequality. On the other side, posapocalyptic texts show an ecocentric vision, that rejects a dualistic approach about environment.
