El grabado como una disciplina artística por derecho propio, prescindiendo de aquella idea preconcebida del oficio como un medio difusor y reproductor de gran cantidad de imágenes, por oposición al carácter único de la pintura o la escultura, supeditado a la reproducción barata de pliegos con imágenes, no tuvo su antecedente directo en la historia del grabado en Costa Rica
