Abstract

We determine trace mineral concentrations in serum of different sports athletes, compared to a control group. Also assesses the effect of a maximal exercise test on a treadmill has on the serum concentration of minerals in elite athletes and the effect of 6 months of training has on the concentration of these elements. Involved 132 male subjects (31 active subjects, control group; 28 aerobic sportsmen, 24 anaerobic sportsmen and 28 aerobic-anaerobic sportsmen, being football players; 21 endurance and middle distance athletes for effect acute and chronic). We take sample blood after 9 hours fasting in all participants. Samples were analyzed by ICP-MS. We obtain lower concentrations of macro as Mg and P in sportsmen compared to control group. And in general, higher concentrations of trace minerals in sportsmen compared to control group. When analyzing sportsmen of different modalities metabolic appreciate greater variations in aerobic sportsmen. In the acute effect we observed a hemoconcentration and decrease of macromineral concentrations (Mg and P) and essential trace elements (Co, Cu, Se and Zn). When we evaluated the effects of training, we observed a decrease in serum concentration of Cr, Mn, Ni and V, in addition to the reduction of toxic metals such as Pb at the end of the training period. We came to the conclusion that the acute and chronic physical activity produces changes in serum concentrations of minerals.
