Abstract

La conferencia resume el marco en que se ha desarrollado el regadío en España, y los desafíos a que se en enfrenta en función de sus elevados impactos ambientales demostrados, en cantidad y calidad, sobre las masas de agua, agravados por el Cambio Climático y las crisis energéticas. Se señalan las razones del agotamiento de las medidas tradicionales de aumento de la oferta de agua mediante nuevas regulaciones, transvases y desalación, y se explica la paradoja hidrológica, por la que los planes de modernización de regadío llevados a cabo pueden haber reducido el uso de agua, y sin embargo, haber aumentado su consumo. Se formulan soluciones y alternativas efectivas para superar estas disfunciones en tres ejes: tecnologías para la reducción de la evapotranspiración, cambios estratégicos en los tipos de cultivos, y reajustes de superficie de riego, medidas que, correctamente combinadas, permitan hacer frente a estos desafíos y adecuen los sistemas de riego a los límites ambientales
