Centro de Protección y Bienestar Animal

Abstract

The population rate of abandoned animals in Barranquilla and its metropolitan area has increased in recent years, despite the campaigns carried out by the Barranquilla district and the Atlántico governorship to control this population. The previous situation brings with it the increase in rabies accidents and health problems as animals transmit tombs diseases to humans. Taking into account the previous problems, it is proposed to design an Animal Protection and Welfare Center for the unprotected trees that live in the streets of Barranquilla and its metropolitan area. The Animal Welfare and Protection Center will be located on Carrera 38 - via Juan Mina, 2.5 km from the urban center of Barranquilla and will have an available area of 6.6 Ha. The Animal Protection and Welfare Center is made up of a structural complex consisting of an alternative access road to Carrera 38, internal roads, parking area, green areas and seven buildings. Within the seven buildings is: the clinical and administrative building, which are located veterinary clinics and administrative offices, buildings for intensive care of animals, the hall for necropsies, buildings for the protection of animals and a storage warehouse. The project has economic limitations that take into account the hydrological and geotechnical studies carried out, it is necessary to divert a body of water, excavate and fill large volumes of land due to the flood and the type of soil found. This increased the total cost of the project considerably. It was possible to infer that the proposal and the presented design has various benefits for both the animal community and the inhabitants of this area, so it is viable at a social and environmental aspects.
