Abstract

La innegable utilidad epidemiológica y clínica de los factores de riesgo cardiovascular clásicos alienta la búsqueda constante, así como la identificación y la caracterización de nuevos factores de riesgo cardiovascular. También es necesario buscar e identificar marcadores independientes de riesgo, se encuentren éstos asociados o no al desarrollo de la enfermedad. En este trabajo, discutimos la relevancia de algunos marcadores bioquímicos de riesgo vascular derivada de los diversos estudios realizados. Teniendo en cuenta el progreso constante en el conocimiento de la génesis de la placa de ateroma, la utilidad futura de estos marcadores dependerá probablemente de la integración de la información ambiental con la obtenida de perfiles genéticos y con la observada a partir de la expresión de genes clave.
