La Escuela de Viena del Realismo Fantástico se considera como la aportación austríaca más interesante al arte posterior a 1950. Entre los cinco artistas más importantes, destaca la obra de Ernst Fuchs, un creador polifacético que reivindica las técnicas de los antiguos maestros de la pintura y que sienta las bases del arte fantástico pos-moderno.
