Abstract

This study aims to analyze Patricia Suárez’s short story “Los viejitos” from the perspective of the family ideologeme that underlies its construction. Conceived as symbolic and ideological use of the family concept (in no case as the specific social forms), there can be traced various layers of meaning in family discourses produced in the last decades (several sociohistorical periods) and referring to different spaces of the Argentinian society. The paper, thus, aligns with the body of sociohistorical studies concerning the changes in Argentinian families during the political transition, as a fluctuating and dialogic construct.
