Tartessos e Tartéssios, de Estesícoro a Éforo

Abstract

VII e meados do séc. IV a.C.. Abstract: The recent critiques pertaining to Tartessos’ image in the written sources and the role of Archaeology in this process, are the starting point to a critical reflection about the written references to Tartessos in Greek sources between the end of 7th to the middle of the 4th centuries BC. This article calls into question the meaning of this name, as well as its variations, as an indigenous entity, different from the Phoenicians. At the same time, it presents some methodological questions about the reading of these texts.
