Abstract

Na prevenção primária dos defeitos do tubo neural é recomendada a utilização diária de pelo menos 400 microgramas de ácido fólico, com início antes da gravidez e até ao fim do primeiro trimestre, sendo omisso na recomendação nacional a dosagem a utilizar. Foi realizado um estudo transversal na Rede Médicos-Sentinela, entre janeiro e outubro de 2017, para estimar a frequência e caracterizar a toma de ácido fólico pelas mulheres grávidas. Para cada uma das variáveis em estudo, foram calculadas médias e medianas, para as variáveis contínuas, e frequências relativas, para as variáveis categóricas. Das 446 grávidas recrutadas para o estudo, 90,5% tomou ácido fólico no primeiro trimestre e destas 45,2% iniciou a toma antes de engravidar. A maioria (80,0%) referiu nunca ter esquecido a toma diária deste suplemento. Estes resultados preliminares parecem indicar um aumento da adesão à toma de ácido fólico na fase pré-concecional na população em vigilância na Rede Médicos-Sentinela.
