Paixão pelo Curso, Estilos Educativos Parentais percebidos e Distress Psicológico em Estudantes do Ensino Superior

Abstract

The present investigation aimed to analyze the relation between the perceived parental educational styles, the passion for the enrolled course, and psychological distress in higher education students. The sample consisted of 411 participants aged between 18 and 25 years old. The data was collected through an online protocol consisting of a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Revised Parenting Styles Questionnaire and the Portuguese version of the questionnaires The Passion Scale and the 10-item Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10). The results showed a positive perception of the parents' educational styles by the students, with differences in the perception of the mother's and father's educational styles. Differences were found in the levels of psychological distress in the two passion groups. Were found correlations between parental educational styles and the type of passion for the course. In conclusion, the results of the present investigation emphasize the relevance of higher education students having a passion for the course they attend. The study also showed that the perception of positive parental practices seems to be associated with the development of a Harmonious Passion, which contributes to good academic performance and lower levels of psychological distress.
