Musgo

Uma revolução contra o desperdício alimentar
Authors: de Andrade, David Coutinho dos Santos Valle;
Abstract

Musgo is a brand that looks at food waste as an opportunity to combine new raw materials with possible objects. In the case of this research, the object developed, called "2319", a portable coffee station, was designed for use in outdoor recreational activities. In order to achieve the objectives of this project, various methodologies were used, both interventionist and non-interventionist, using qualitative and quantitative principles. These methods were taken from the book "Universal Methods of Design" (Hanington & Martin, 2022) and are applied in three distinct phases: exploratory, generative and evaluative. The Literature Review made it possible to study three main themes: the Portuguese sea economy, the by-products of this economy and the bio-based materials that this raw material can generate. This review briefly discusses the importance of the sea for our economy and our lives. It shows us not only how to protect it, but also how to enjoy it in an eco-conscious way. Next, a short questionnaire was carried out, which allowed three object concepts to be developed, all of them linked to the preparation and preservation of food outdoors, and finally the portable coffee station was selected for development. Subsequently, the initial object was designed and prototyped so that usability tests could be carried out, allowing respondents to physically interact with the object, followed by a questionnaire to obtain feedback on the object. At this stage, concrete research was also carried out into hypothetical bio-based materials to be used. In the final phase, the object was redesigned to better serve the user. This resulted in a French press designed for camping, where it is suggested that a possible bio-based material with mussel shells as its matrix be applied to the two cups present in the object.
