Abstract

O estudo pretendeu apresentar as indicações clínicas, vantagens e princípios da mamografia com contraste, identificar as evoluyções tecnológicas para a mamografia com contraste e caracterizar as práticas e os desafios dos técnicos de radiologia do Hospital de Santarém (único no país a utilizar esta técnica). O cancro da mama é uma das principais causas de morte nas mulheres, em todo o mundo, mas principalmente nos Estados Unidos da América, Canadá, Europa Ocidental e Austrália. Em Portugal, e como reportado no Plano Nacional de Saúde 2004-2010, o cancro da mama está entre as três principais causas de morte. A mamografia é o principal método utilizado no rastreio e diagnóstico dos sinais do cancro da mama, mantendo-se a modalidade de imagem recomendada para utilização em programas de rastreio em diversos países da Europa e nos EUA. São conhecidas as limitações da mamografia, em concreto a sua limitada sensibilidade e especificidade na deteção e caracterização de lesões, particularmente em mamas densas e de mulheres jovens. Estudos sobre a eficácia da mamografia em mulheres com mais de 50 anos apontam valores de sensibilidade entre 68% e 90% e especificidade variável entre 82% e 97%. A mamografia digital com contraste é um dos desenvolvimentos mais recentes que veio ajudar na melhoria da sensibilidade e da especificidade da mamografia.
