The sea in the works and life of Gregory Palamas

Abstract

Le chapitre est divisé en deux parties, l’une consacrée à l’œuvre et l’autre à la biographie de Grégoire Palamas. Dans la première partie, la plus courte, nous examinons l’ensemble de la production de Grégoire, des œuvres de jeunesse à celles de ses dernières années, et nous présentons les passages où il traite de la mer, ainsi que leurs précédents scripturaires, patristiques ou hagiographiques. La deuxième partie est consacrée à la bio graphie de Grégoire et, en particulier, à la période qui suit sa consécration comme métropolite de Thessalonique, à ses voyages en mer entre Constan tinople et Thessalonique, aux navires utilisés pour le voyage, etc. Une attention particulière est accordée au voyage maritime de 1354, à l’occasion du tremblement de terre et du tsunami qui ont frappé la région des Détroits (et au-delà).
