Abstract

Il volume illustra i principali valori dell’etica professionale dei bibliotecari (libertà intellettuale, diritto alla riservatezza, responsabilità sociale, proprietà intellettuale, professionalità, democrazia) e i loro possibili conflitti, citando e commentando numerosi codici deontologici redatti dalle associazioni professionali di tutto il mondo, fra cui quelli recentemente emanati dall’IFLA nel 2012 e dall’AIB nel 2014. Conoscere e condividere tali valori è indispensabile per chiunque lavori in ambito bibliotecario, soprattutto in periodi di rapidi cambiamenti tecnologici e di pesante crisi economica, quando diventa ancora più importante capire perché le biblioteche forniscono certi servizi piuttosto che altri, ovvero quali sono i loro fini ultimi, in modo da sapersi prontamente riorientare anche nei contesti più critici e mutevoli senza sacrificare le priorità fondamentali. Completano il volume il testo integrale del nuovo codice deontologico italiano dell’AIB, finora mai pubblicato a stampa, e una traduzione italiana originale del codice deontologico internazionale dell’IFLA.
