Sistemas de pastoreo ovino: estimación de la ingestión

Abstract

En las décadas pasadas los objetivos de los sistemas de producción ovina eran, en general, lograr una elevada producción individual (alta eficiencia de utilización de los nutrientes, máximas producciones, etc.). Estos planteamientos llevaron en el Reino Unido, como ejemplo de un país líder en producción ovina, a un aumento de 224 a 297 miles de toneladas de carne ovina entre 1971 y 1987 y sin embargo, el consumo pasó de 568 a 378 miles de toneladas en el mismo periodo (MLC, 1989) En nuestro país, a pesar del descenso en los precios de la carne de ovino (18% en 1987) siendo el sector que se esperaba fuera el más beneficiado de la entrada en el Mercado Común Europeo, en los últimos años se ha producido un crecimiento importante en el censo de ganado ovino (MLC, 1988). El menor incremento en la demanda con relación a la producción, el hecho de que más del 24% de los ingresos de las explotaciones ovinas españolas proceden de las subvenciones comunitarias (aproximadamente 50.000 millones de pesetas en 1989) y la anunciada ,ejución en las ayudas de este tipo, con un número máximo de animales subvencionados por explotación y la reducción en las ayudas por animal, obliga a plantearse una alternativa a los sistemas de producción ovina existentes en la actualidad....
