We conducted a descriptive study of raising conceptions of students of the last year of high school about mass extinctions. It is mentioned that the extinctions, particularly the Pleistocene extinction and biodiversity loss in Holocene, result from strong anthropogenic causes, being less mentioned natural causes or evolution. On the other hand, it was important to know the position of students related to catastrophic or gradual causes
