Trabalho experimental de recria/engorda de novilhos (raças: Alentejana, Mertolenga, Alentejana×Mertolenga e Holstein Frísia) oriundos da Herdade da Mitra e agrupados em quatro lotes, quantas as modalidades analisadas: 1A – engorda em curral com colares eletrónicos e B330 a 2% do peso vivo; 2A – engorda a campo, com B330 "Ad Libitum"; 3A – engorda em pastagem e acabamento em curral; 3B – Sempre no campo, com suplementação com Tacos após Julho e B330 "Ad Libitum" após Setembro. Foram avaliados, em médias diárias, para cada grupo experimental (1A a 3B): crescimento; consumos ajustados; custos alimentares; resultados dos abates (rendimento carcaça, pH, classificação carcaça); e lucro. A modalidade, que se mostrou mais eficaz foi a 3A, sendo a 2A a que leva a maiores prejuízos, sendo que os animais mais eficientes são os da raça Alentejana. Relativamente às carcaças e qualidade não se verificaram diferenças significativas entre os grupos de engorda; Efficiency of modality of rearing/fattening in beef cattle Abstract: Experimental work of rearing/fattening of young bulls (breeds: Alentejana, Mertolenga, Alentejana×Mertolenga and Holstein Frísia) native from Herdade da Mitra and grouped in four lots, according to each modality analyzed: 1A – fattening in feedlot with electrical collars and B330 with 2% of live weight; 2A – fattening in field, with B330 “Ad Libitum"; 3A – fattening in pasture and finishing in feedlot; 3B – always in the field, with supplement with "Tacos" after July and B330 “Ad Libitum” after September. To each experimental group, with daily average, were evaluated: growth; adjusted consumption; food costs; result of the slaughters (yield carcass, pH, classification carcass); and profit. The modality which seems to be more effective was 3A, however 2A was the one that showed more prejudice. The animals of the Alentejana breed were the ones that showed to be more efficient. In respects the carcass and quality, no relevant differences between the fattening groups were found.
