Abstract

This dissertation entitled "The role of the Social Worker in community mental health", aims to reflect on the performance of social work inserted in multidisciplinary mental health teams, emphasizing interdisciplinary practice within the community model. The investigation covers the understanding of the insertion of Social Work in the field of mental health, also exploring the context and importance of promoting empowerment for the social inclusion of people with mental illness. The research incorporated several theoretical and methodological procedures, research and documentary analysis of several authors considered in the study area. The qualitative approach was focused, and the technique used was the semi-structured interview, guided by an interview script. Content analysis was applied, which was oriented in categories, analyzing the data through the maxqda program, stipulating the crossing of theoretical and empirical elements, according to the objectives defined at the beginning of the study. The relevance of the theme is understood, since it is verified that problems related to mental health have a significant impact on societies, raising the hypothesis of reflecting on mental health policies and the interventions that are carried out. The results obtained allowed us to know the process of intervention of social work in mental health and to realize that it has its own specificities in its intervention. We found that despite advances and efforts in terms of public mental health policies, there are still deficiencies in responses that meet the needs of the mentally ill, bringing limitations in interventions by professionals.
