Abstract

The objective is to determine the percentage of the valuation, performed by an expert, of each of the 257 paintings of the Telo de Morais Modern and Contemporary Collection that depends from factors such as the ranking of the artist, the dimensions and medium of the work of art. The artists’ ranking is supported on a series of sources, such as the inclusion of their works in collections and publications of reference where the relative weight of each source is determined in order to maximize the correlation as outcome of the hedonic regression between the valuations and the ranking. Additionally, descriptive statistics are presented based on formal characteristics of the collection as well as a qualitative analysis of the collection and the collector after an interview.
