Igualdad de oportunidades en sociedades desiguales

Abstract

Equality of opportunities is one of the most important aspects of equality and freedom, and as such is nowadays recognized in many theories of justice, either those most equalitarian or libertarian positions. The question, however, would be: what does it happens with equality of opportunities in the concrete social, political and economic context in which we are living? On the one hand, the idea of equality of opportunities doesn’t provide answers to the real challenges that equality of people’s rights, being only able to offer in the best scenario, a formal guarantee. On the other hand, equality of opportunities is incompatible with other important concepts such as natural talents and deserts.
