Abstract

Luego de una breve aclaración conceptual para justificar el uso de la expre-sión “actividad estratégica” en vez de “estrategia” y de una somera revisión histórica del concepto lectura, se hace ver que actualmente la mayoría de los estudiosos acepta que la lectura es una actividad cognitiva de naturaleza estratégica, es decir, dirigida a un fin. Con la incorporación de la noción de metacognición surge una controversia acerca del carácter consciente de las estrategias. Se recuerda la distinción entre actividad y conocimiento metacognitivos para luego mostrar breves ejemplos del cuestionario de selec-ción múltiple construido para medir el conocimiento metacomprensivo en alumnos de enseñanza básica y media en Córdoba, Argentina, y en Valparaíso, Chile. Se contrastan los resultados muy similares, por lo demás, con una leve ventaja para los trasandinos, sobre todo a nivel de 8º año básico, que corres-ponde a enseñanza media en Argentina.
