Abstract

An Italian nurse has been infected with HIV after she was splashed with blood trying to unblock a tube inserted into an infected patient's artery. Only three other instances have been recorded of health workers being infected in this way, though a few cases exist of exposure to HIV from someone being pricked with a used needle.
