This paper analyzes the effects of the Colombian conflict in Venezuela and the perceptions of threat of the country’s leading political actors regarding Colombia’s security crisis. The author discusses the tangible consequences of the Colombian conflict in Venezuela. Second, the ways in which the security crisis has been perceived and politically maneuvered by the Venezuelan government is explored. Finally, the article traces the interaction been the securitization of security and defense issues in Venezuela, and perceptions about the Colombian security crisis and its effects.
