Dogville : un récit en adaptation

Abstract

Le film Dogville de Lars von Trier met à nu les grands enjeux de l’adaptation, à commencer sans doute par la notion d’adaptabilité des supports théâtraux et filmiques. Une vocation littéraire s’y exprime au surplus, par l’intervention d’une voix off qui participe de l’identité des personnages et qui explique la composition de l’intrigue. Cette voix invite à réfléchir sur la couture scénaristique qui tend à prendre ensemble les diverses matérialités du film. Présentant, tout au long, un univers fictif, Dogville se conclut par un retour à une réalité documentaire qui renforce le sens de l’oeuvre. Voilà chacune des propositions qui émailleront l’argumentation de notre article et qui y tiendront, de fait, lieu de parcours.
