Abstract

L’examen propose dans cet article des ex-libris, ex-dono, lettres et notes manuscrites trouves dans plusieurs imprimes des xvie, xviie et xviiie siecles que possedent aujourd’hui les jesuites de la Province du Canada francais mene le lecteur des collections de la bibliotheque du College de Quebec, fondee en 1632, aux collections de la Bibliotheque du College de l’Immaculee-Conception conservees, depuis 2004, a la Bibliotheque de la Compagnie de Jesus, a Montreal. Selon qu’ils ont ete traces ou apposes avant ou apres 1800, les ex-libris dont les jesuites ont marque leurs livres racontent l’histoire, ou des anciennes missions de la Compagnie de Jesus dans la Nouvelle-France ou des missions modernes de la Compagnie au Canada. Il est donc possible, notamment grâce aux mots traces a la main par d’autres possesseurs, laics ou religieux, et aux empreintes laissees par des donateurs dans quelques exemplaires anciens, d’entrevoir une continuite dans la discontinuite d’une histoire marquee par l’absence des jesuites du Canada entre 1800 et 1842.
