Abstract

La mucinosis folicular ha sido un trastorno cutáneo poco común caracterizado por el depósito difuso de mucina en la piel, particularmente en la unidad pilosebácea. La afección ha formado parte de las mucinosis cutáneas, un grupo de trastornos caracterizados por una acumulación anormal de mucina, una sustancia gelatinosa que se encuentró en la matriz extracelular de la piel. La causa de la mucinosis folicular no ha estado completamente establecida, lo que ha significado que sus orígenes han seguido siendo inciertos. Sin embargo, se reconoció que puede presentarse en dos formas clínicas diferentes: primaria (también llamada idiopática) y secundaria. La mucinosis folicular primaria ocurre sin una causa subyacente clara, tiende a afectar a adultos jóvenes, suele ser autolimitada y tiene un pronóstico favorable. Las formas secundarias, por otro lado, pueden estar asociadas con afecciones benignas, como la dermatitis seborreica, o con afecciones malignas, incluidos los linfomas cutáneos de células T, especialmente la micosis fungoide. Entre los casos clínicos analizados se brinda un reporte detallado de la mucinopatía folicular, enfatizando las características clínicas del paciente, el diagnóstico diferencial y las estrategias de manejo terapéutico implementadas. Este enfoque es fundamental para abordar adecuadamente la enfermedad, ya que los tratamientos pueden variar mucho según la presentación y las asociaciones malignas o benignas subyacentes que puedan existir.
