Internationally, copyright protection is the most extensively utilized legal protection model for software. Software is protected under copyright law since it is a sort of "work." Because the requirements to qualify as works under copyright laws are not stringent, just formal creativity is required. As a result, practically every piece of software is protected by copyright. Based on the "automatic copyright" concept, software can be copyright protected quickly and easily after development, without the need for additional application and approval. Because copyright protection is the most widely used intellectual property protection system, most countries that have implemented copyright protection systems are members of the Berne Convention and the Universal Copyright Convention. As a result, international protection for software can be more easily obtained under a copyright protection regime, and new multilateral treaties to cover software are not required.Software is specifically covered under China’s Copyright Law.
