Abstract

La familia –y, por extensión, el parentesco–se revela como una potente herramienta teórica y metodológica para adentrarse en el análisis de la complejidad de la realidad social. Y si existe un rasgo que sobresale por encima de otros es su carácter dinámico, lo que justifica que, precisamente, sea la Historia una de las ciencias sociales y humanas más pertinentes para su estudio. Por consiguiente, cualquier investigación que intente profundizar en el conocimiento de la sociedad del pasado, y también del presente, encuentra en las relaciones familiares un imprescindible factor explicativo. A fin de cuentas, como es bien sabido, la familia es la unidad básica de socialización. Sea por esta razón o por otra, el caso que es uno de los vehículos articuladores de la sociedad. No se pretende dilucidar el factor genealógico, si la familia o si la sociedad; se trata, simplemente, de entender que, en el conjunto social, conformado fundamentalmente por relaciones, lo familiar tiene una trascendencia ineludible.
