Training in this subject has been a necessary part of the programs for turning out fliers, engineers, teachers, doctors, chemists, meteorologists and other workers. The amount of mathematics needed varies with the type of work and the level upon which the individual is eventually to perform. A test chemist may find use for only a little arithmetic and proportion. On the other hand, a research chemist may be handicapped without some graduate courses.
