O/a assistente social na educação: implicações para uma escola inclusiva

Abstract

O Serviço Social desempenha um papel central na intervenção preventiva, assistencial e política na Educação em Portugal. A formação específica do assistente social, as competências especializadas, a metodologia de intervenção e a natureza do trabalho que realiza, tornam‐no um profissional privilegiado para agir, numa perspetiva de inclusão escolar e social, em cinco dimensões: aluno, família, instituição, comunidade e política. Mobilizando literatura de referência, nacional e internacional, propõe‐se apresentar o papel do assistente social no campo da Educação e as suas contribuições, e ensaia‐se implicações para o futuro. Conclui‐se que o profissional tece contributos relevantes no combate às desigualdades sociais inscritas na escola, traduzindo‐se em um ponto de referência para o desenho e desenvolvimento das políticas educativas e inclusivas. Consagra‐se a necessidade do investimento político e de produção de conhecimento científico nestes locais de intervenção.
