We present highlights of studies of the terrestrial ring current enhancement and decay dynamics. We address, among others, the ring current response to different types of substorms and to different types of interplanetary drivers, as well as new insights on the relative importance of loss mechanisms. We have included studies that use observations (mainly by the Van Allen Probes) and comparisons between model results and observations, spanning the time period from 2019 (the year of the previous IUGG Assembly) to early 2023.
