Sozialarbeit mit Krebskranken

Abstract

Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts rückte die Bekämpfung von Krebserkrankungen immer mehr in den Fokus der Medizin. Frühzeitig wurde erkannt, dass neben der medizinischen Behandlung psychosoziale Aspekte eine wichtige Rolle einnehmen. Es galt, die Patienten zu ermutigen, ihre Therapien fortzusetzen, deren Finanzierung sicherzustellen und Betreuungsmöglichkeiten für nicht mehr behandlungsfähige Patienten zu finden. Diese Anforderungen an die Betreuer der Erkrankten führten zum Aufbau der "Krebsfürsorge" und zu einer Zusammenarbeit von ÄrztInnen, Pflegekräften und FürsorgerInnen (heutige SozialarbeiterInnen), die es bis dahin kaum gab. In diesem Buch wird erstmals die Geschichte der Sozialarbeit mit Krebskranken über einen Zeitraum von über 100 Jahren zusammengestellt.
