Ensilaje de Zea mays: Alternativa nutricional en la producción bovina de leche

Abstract

El ensilaje de Zea mays es una estrategia clave para conservar alimentos de alta calidad y garantizar su disponibilidad en momentos de escasez. Este proceso, basado en una fermentación anaeróbica controlada, permite preservar las propiedades nutritivas del maíz, un cultivo fundamental en regiones tropicales por su alto rendimiento energético y versatilidad en la alimentación de ganado bovino. El objetivo de esta revisión bibliográfica fue analizar el impacto del ensilaje de maíz en la producción lechera, destacando su contribución a la productividad y rentabilidad en contextos de escasez forrajera. Entre los hallazgos más relevantes, se evidenció que el ensilaje mejora la producción de leche debido a su alta digestibilidad y contenido energético. Estudios han reportado incrementos significativos en la producción lechera, eficiencia alimenticia y condición corporal en vacas suplementadas con este alimento, especialmente durante la temporada seca, cuando otros forrajes son menos accesibles. Este recurso representa una alternativa nutricional efectiva para optimizar la calidad y disponibilidad de alimentos en períodos críticos. Su implementación no solo mejora la sostenibilidad económica y productiva, sino que también reduce la dependencia de insumos externos. Sin embargo, su eficacia está ligada a un manejo adecuado y a la integración de estrategias complementarias adaptadas a condiciones climáticas cambiantes.
