Abstract

Kedudukan dan fungsi paradigma amat penting karena merupakan bagian integral dari kegiatan penelitian. Penelitian yang baik adalah penelitian yang menyadari dasar orientasi teoretisnya serta memanfaatkannya dalam pengumpulan dan analisis data. Buku ini menyajikan bahasan yang komprehensif mengenai paradigma, perkembangan kebudayaan, serta perkembangan pemikiran-pemikiran teoretis para filsuf ilmuwan sosial sejak era awal Revolusi Industri di Eropa hingga era kapitalisme global. Tak kurang dari 15 teori ilmu budaya dijelaskan secara terperinci dan terstruktur berikut percabangan dan pengembangannya. Dalam buku ini, diulas pula tokoh-tokoh yang berperan penting dan terlibat di dalam pengembangan teori-teori ilmu budaya. Di antara teoretikus dan tokoh-tokoh penting ternama yang pemikirannya dibahas adalah Karl Marx, Georg Hegel, Peter Berger, Erving Goffman, Jurgen Habermas, Ferdinand de Saussure, Clifford Geertz, Anthony Giddens, Jacques Derrida, dan Michel Foucault. Kajian-kajian dalam buku ini merupakan pengantar teori-teori sosial modern, kritis, dan pascamodern, termasuk di antaranya teori feminisme, multikulturalisme, dan pascakolonial. Buku ini diperuntukkan bagi para pegiat ilmu filsafat-budaya dan kalangan akademisi studi ilmu budaya serta kalangan pembaca yang memiliki minat dalam ilmu budaya yang cakupannya sangat luas dan kompleks.
