Sobrepeso y obesidad en el Ecuador

Abstract

Dentro de este capítulo se enfatiza que el sobrepeso y Obesidad es una problemática que se intensifica con mayor fuerza de manera alarmante. La obesidad es causada por la acumulación excesiva de grasa en el cuerpo llegando a ser perjudicial para la salud, siendo como uno de los principales factores de riesgo para la presencia de Enfermedades no Trasmisibles como: diabetes, enfermedades cardiovasculares, hipertensión, accidentes cerebrovasculares, así como varios tipos de cáncer. En Ecuador, 6 de cada 10 personas, han presentado problemas de sobrepeso y obesidad, la actividad física cada vez más reducidos (sedentarismo) y el consumo de alimentos ricos en grasas, azúcares añadidos o sal, alimentos procesados y sobresaturados siendo estas entre las principales causales para esta problemática que afecta la salud de los ecuatorianos.
