Ascitis

Abstract

Los síntomas de mayor valor diagnóstico de ascitis son: distensión abdominal, aumento de peso, antecedentes de enfermedad hepática y edemas periféricos. Cuando el paciente describe síntomas, la cantidad de líquido ya suele ser suficiente para que la exploración física sea útil. Los signos más relevantes son la oleada ascítica y la presencia de matidez cambiante. Los hallazgos más útiles para descartar ascitis son: ausencia de edema de tobillos, falta de aumento de circunferencia abdominal, de abultamiento de flancos, de matidez de flancos o de matidez cambiante. La ecografía es la técnica confirmatoria. El diagnóstico etiológico se basa en la historia, la exploración física, el análisis de líquido y, si es necesario, en técnicas de imagen complementarias.
