Abstract

“Analyzing Social Networks” de Steve P. Borgatti, Martin G. Everett y Jeffrey C. Johnson (2013) es un nuevo manual de iniciación en el ARS, que pretende responder a algunas de las dificultades detectadas en el uso del ARS en las Ciencias Sociales. Para ello cuenta, a nuestro parecer, con la virtud de ser capaz de ir más allá de las definiciones de los conceptos básicos de centralidad, cohesión, etc., mostrando (a) una perspectiva diferente sobre el análisis de la realidad social que requiere de nuevas estrategias de investigación y (b) lo suficiente de las raíces teóricas y matemáticas de estos conceptos como para ser accesible y útil para cualquier perfil de lectores y usuarios (tanto para los recién llegados como para los avanzados). En este sentido, los autores han encontrado el equilibrio adecuado entre las orientaciones formativa y reflexiva en torno al ARS, lo que convierte a esta obra en un manual muy adecuado tanto para su inclusión en el contexto de la formación, como para su uso como obra de consulta en el contexto de investigación. Todo ello con un objetivo aplicado, basada en el uso de software para el análisis y con ejemplos pertinentes y ampliamente conocidos en el contexto del ARS.
