Abstract The aim of this paper is analysing traces of the individual, Diogo Mainardi, within three columns of his authorship in Revista Veja (editions 1683,1699 e 1700). We will analyse linguistic traces, revealers of the journalist’s subjectivity, based on a discourse treatment, just like those proposed by Possenti (2001). A personal experience – a son handicapped – leads to a rupture in Mainardi’s style, usually ironic, and to a breakage in his “basic rules” of discoursive construction. Supported by the analysis, we will consider the author’s representation of his reader, of himself, of his son and of children in similar condition, and we will consider also the parent’s representation of this kind of neurological disorders.
