Vom sprachlichen Indikator zum komplexen Phänomen?

Abstract

Basierend auf ersten Erfahrungen bei der Operationalisierung des narratologischen Konzepts "unzuverlässiges Erzählen", präsentiert dieser Beitrag theoretische Überlegungen zur Operationalisierung und computationellen (Teil-)Modellierung komplexer literaturwissenschaftlicher Konzepte. Ausgehend von der Annahme, dass solche Konzepte nicht vollständig und eindeutig operationalisiert und computationell modelliert werden können, besteht der Kerngedanke darin, dass Nutzen und Grenzen computationeller Analysen für literaturwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen besser beurteilt werden können, wenn klargestellt wird, welche Rolle computationell modellierte Texteigenschaften im Zusammenhang mit komplexen Phänomenen von literaturwissenschaftlichem Interesse spielen. Vorgeschlagen wird eine Systematik zur Angabe der relevanten Informationen: Es sollte zum einen deutlich gemacht werden, ob die computationell modellierten Indikatoren eine Rolle bei der Entwicklung oder bei der Begründung von Thesen über das Vorliegen eines komplexen Phänomens spielen. Zum anderen sollte geprüft werden, ob die Indikatoren notwendige oder hinreichende Bedingungen für das Phänomen darstellen oder ob ein Zusammenhang bedingter Wahrscheinlichkeit vorliegt. Illustriert wird die Systematik beispielhaft anhand des unzuverlässigen Erzählens. Ein Beitrag zur 9.
