Abstract

rbb24 Inforadio Interview COP: Climate expert Edenhofer dampens expectations The 27th UN Climate Change Conference began in Egypt on Sunday. It is supposed to advance the fight against the climate crisis globally. Ottmar Edenhofer, Director and Chief Economist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, dampens expectations, however. Climate expert Ottmar Edenhofer has dampened expectations for the World Climate Conference in Egypt. In Sharm el-Sheikh, financial compensation will be the main topic of discussion. That is also important - but for the climate, binding agreements are necessary to emit fewer greenhouse gases. "I think it's important now that the main issuers come up with a structure where you say: if you go along, I'll go along," Edenhofer said. "We have to come up with commitments here. We simply no longer have the time to go through this marathon of negotiations. We then ask ourselves before every world climate conference whether there will be a breakthrough. There will not be a breakthrough this time either. We need new negotiation formats."
