Progymnasmata syriaques: La philosophie morale de forme gnomique et son usage dans l'enseignement de la rhétorique

Abstract

Des ��l��ments d�����ducation et de pratique rh��torique peuvent ��tre identifi��s dans les manuscrits syriaques, �� la fois dans leur structure et leur contenu. De br��ves compositions ��difiantes (extraites de trait��s moraux plus larges) et des paroles morales t��moignent de l���usage de textes d���exemples (d��sign��s du nom de �� d��monstrations ��) dans un but rh��torique. En outre, la structure de plusieurs manuscrits syriaques d��montre une familiarit�� avec le syst��me tardo-antique d�����ducation en g��n��ral et avec l���enseignement de la rh��torique en particulier. La pratique et les buts de l�����ducation rh��torique dans les monast��res syriaques doivent avoir ��t�� assez diff��rents de ceux des ��coles non chr��tiennes de l���antiquit�� tardive. Cependant l���apparition des monast��res comme de nouveaux centres d���enseignement a ��t�� certes marqu��e par des changements radicaux mais aussi par des continuit��s de certaines formes d�����ducation. Il n���est pas surprenant que les ��tudiants syriaques aient largement continu�� �� utiliser les m��mes modes de la paideia qui avaient ��t�� critiqu��s comme des reliques de la culture �� pa��enne �� antique.
