Abstract

Vizije koje okružuju „samo-pokretna“ ili „autonomna“ vozila primjer su instance socio-tehničkog imaginarija: vizije buduće tehnologije koja tek treba biti razvijena ili je u procesu razvoja. Jedno od centralnih opravdanja za razvoj autonomnih vozila je tvrdnja da će oni smanjiti smrt i povrede uzrokovane automobilima. U središtu ovog narativa je pretpostavka da je više od 90% saobraćajnih nesreća rezultat “greške vozača”. Ovaj rad opisuje postupak kojim je izrađena ova statistika u okviru istraživanja sigurnosti cestovnog saobraćaja i koja je potom prihvaćena kao činjenica. To je jedna od glavnih semiotičkih komponenti socio-tehničkog imaginarnog autonomnog vozila: ako su ljudski vozači odgovorni za ~ 90% saobraćajnih nesreća, autonomna bi vozila načelno trebala moći smanjiti stope smrtnosti i povreda na cestama za sličan postotak. U ovom radu se tvrdi da smrt i povrede nisu skup događaja koji se mogu raspodijeliti kroz tri središnje varijable tradicionalnih istraživanja sigurnosti na cestama: vozač, vozilo i okolina. Autonomno vozilo socio-tehničkog imaginarija prihvatio je središnju pretpostavku istraživanja sigurnosti saobraćaja na cestama, da nasilje na cesti nije suštinsko svojstvo automobila, već je uzrokovano uglavnom zbog greške vozača. Na temelju ove pretpostavke bilo je moguće konfigurisati autonomna vozila kao rješenje nasilja na cestama. Iako su socio-tehnički imaginariji tipično orijentisani ka budućnosti, u ovom radu fokusu je na značaju autonomnog socio-tehničkog imaginarija u sadašnjosti. Autonomna vozila nisu radikalno transformacijska tehnologija za koju tvrde njihovi zagovornici, već jednostavno najnoviji u nizu automobilskih socio-tehničkih imaginarija. Oni nisu transformacijski jer njihova promocija osigurava kontinuiranu reprodukciju više istih: naime, više automobila.
