Sewer of Progress. Corporations, institutionalized corruption, and the struggle over the Santiago river (in Spanish)

Abstract

The book is the result of the author’s doctoral dissertation, titled Sewer of progress: Industry and State in the pollution of the Santiago river in Jalisco, Mexico (in Spanish), PhD in Social Sciences, with specialization in Social Anthropology, Centre for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS, Guadalajara, Mexico. The dissertation won the 2018 Doctoral Prize in the annual competition of the WATERLAT-GOBACIT Network (http://waterlat.org/waterlat-student-prize/2018-prize/). The book addresses the serious problem affecting the communities of the Santiago river basin, in the urban-industrial metropolitan area of Guadalajara, State of Jalisco, Mexico, one of the most polluted basins in the country. The research contributes to the work of several Thematic Areas of the Network (http://waterlat.org/thematic-areas/), in particular: TA3 Urban Water Cycle and Essential Public Services, and TA8 Water-related Disasters, but also to TA5 Water and Health and TA6 Hydrosocial Basins, Territories, and Spaces.
