This speech was delivered at the UN General Assembly for the 10 Year Review of the World Summit on the Information Society, by Chuang Liu, Professor at the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Founder and Secretary of CODATA Task Group for the Preservation of and Open Access to S&T Data in/for/with Developing Countries. The speech calls for ongoing efforts to reduce the digital divide and summarises some activities, led by CODATA and other stakeholders, which have contributed to the global research data sharing infrastructure for sciences and sustainability and helped reduce the digital divide.
