ஆய்வு நோக்கம்: பண்டைத் தமிழகத் தலைவருள் ஒருவனாகிய புல்லியின் ஆளுமை, அவனது நாடு, மக்கள் பற்றி வரைவது இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கம் ஆகும். ஆய்வின் தேவையும் சிறப்பும்: புல்லியின் ஆட்சி, நாடு, மக்கள் பற்றித் தெளிய வேண்டிய தேவை உளது. பண்டு தமிழகத்தில் வாழ்ந்த சமூகப் பிரிவுகளைத் தெளிவுறுத்துவது இவ் ஆய்வின் சிறப்பு ஆகும். ஆய்வு முறையும் எல்லையும் சமூகவியல் கோணத்தில் அமையும் இவ் ஆய்விற்குப் புல்லி பற்றிக் குறிப்பிடும் அகநானூறு 61, 83, 209, 295, 311, 359, 393 ஆகிய ஏழு பாடல்கள் முதனிலைத் தரவுகள் ஆக; பிற தொகைப்பாக்கள், இரட்டைக் காப்பியங்கள், நிகண்டுகள், தொல்லியலார் அறிக்கைகள், உரையாசிரியரும் பதிப்பாளரும் ஆய்வாளரும் கூறும் கருத்துகள் ஆகியன இரண்டாம்நிலைத் தரவுகளைத் தருகின்றன. ஆய்வு முடிபும் பயனும்: புல்லி களவர் துணையோடு நெல் வேளாண்மைக்கு உழுவித்த குறுநில மன்னன் ஆவான். மழவர், களவர், ஆயர், குடவர், வணிகர் எனப் பல இனத்தவர் அவனது ஆட்சிப் பரப்பில் வாழ்ந்தமை தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தின் பன்மைத் தன்மைக்குச் சான்றாகிறது. (Aim of the study: The aim of this article is to draw the overall personality of Komaan Pulli; a leader of early Tamilnadu, his land of sovereignty and his people. Need and importance of the study: By this study we are able to identify the various social sects which prevailed among the public of the early Tamil society and understand the details regarding the governance of Pulli. Methodology and area of the study: A sociological approach is followed with the primary source as Akanaanooru 61, 83, 209, 295, 311, 359 and 393 which specify Pulli. The rest of the hymns in anthologies, nikandu, twin epics, the views of publishers, commentators, researchers and epigraphists serve as the secondary sources. Finding of the study and uses: Pulli was a kurunila mannan who indulged in paddy cultivation commanding kalavar to plough for him. Various social sects viz. mazhavar, kalavar, aayar, kudavar and vanikar living in his country proves the multiplicity in the early Tamil society.)
